Waritsara Khongyim, known as Wally, has lost two people to cancer in the last couple of years, including her own father.

Having grown her hair to 24 inches long, Miss Khongyim estimated that she would have 12 inches chopped off today.

The postal worker can be seen delivering in her van on her usual routes around St Martin’s and close to Town, and has been doing so for over three years.

‘It’s not just about cancer, the trust do everything, they fund clinical trials as well as providing real hair wigs free of charge to children and young people who have lost their own hair,’ she said.

‘Their work gives hair and hope to so many. I am inspired by their mission and motivated to make a difference.’

She said that she had learned about the trust while in school and decided that when she would have her hair cut, she would donate it.

‘I’ve always had long hair and just getting rid of it feels like a waste. It could be useful for a child, then it became more personal when Dad passed from cancer.

‘I’m kind of doing it for him, it feels good to know that someone will benefit.

‘I’m going to keep doing it, keep donating hair, as much as I can.'

Miss Khongyim last had her hair cut and donated about two years ago. This time she is doing it to mark her birthday.
