Former Island FM presenter Richard Harding returned to the island from his new home in Devon for a week for a wedding. He booked a day trip to Jersey towards the end of his holiday.

But when the trip was cancelled due to technical problems, he was left battling to get a refund of his £33 ticket.

Due to the cost of roaming, he only found out the Commodore Clipper had suffered a technical problem when he arrived at the harbour at about 5am on Monday morning and met a female member of Condor staff.

‘She offered me a day trip on Wednesday, but we are heading back to the UK, so we could not take them up on it,’ he said.

‘So we asked for a refund. She spoke to a colleague and the refund was refused. Instead we were offered a credit voucher.’

The voucher would be valid for 12 months. But Mr Harding, who has lived in the UK for the past three years, said he was not sure when he would be able to use it.

The Guernsey Press contacted Condor on Mr Harding’s behalf.

The ferry firm said it regretted having to cancel the day trip, which it said Mr Harding was informed about by email and text at 8.15pm on Sunday.

‘In line with our policy on day trips, we offer passengers the option to rebook for an alternative date or receive a travel voucher which is valid for 12 months,’ the spokesman said.

‘Mr Harding was therefore offered a voucher when he spoke with a colleague at the check-in desk on Monday.

‘However, as this now appears not to be suitable for his needs, we are happy to provide a full refund. We encourage Mr Harding to contact our customer relations team who will facilitate the reimbursement.’

Mr Harding said he was delighted with the outcome.
