AIRTEL-VODAFONE customers should not see any changes to their services in the near future, Sure has announced as it confirmed that it has completed its takeover of the company.

Sure was given the green light to buy Airtel by the States last month, after deputies voted to bypass the competition law and allow the deal to go ahead. For now, the two companies will continue to operate separately, Sure said.

Airtel-Vodafone will be keeping its existing deals for the next three years for both existing and new customers, and its High Street shop will also remain open for the time being.

‘For now, both stores will remain open as the companies are operating separately,’ said a Sure spokesman.

‘We will inform customers when this situation changes.’

He added that Airtel customers needed to take no action and would be contacted in the coming weeks.

‘Airtel customers can still purchase and receive service through Airtel’s stores, website, and call centre,’ he said.

‘Sure is legally committed to provide Airtel’s plans to existing customers for the next three years. Airtel-Vodafone’s entry-level “basic” plan will also remain available for the next three years.’

Sure has committed to investing in a new 5G mobile network which it said will provide better speeds and coverage and require one-third fewer masts in order to operate.

Sure Group CEO Alistair Beak said it was an exciting day for the future of telecommunications in the Channel Islands.

‘We want existing and new customers to know that the large investment we’re making will lead to significant improvements to their connectivity, speeds and coverage, as well as value for money through innovative products and services,’ he said.

‘The new mobile network, complemented by our extensive fibre network, will mean we can stay ahead of future demand driven by our increasingly digital lifestyles.’

Sure was looking forward to working with the team from Airtel-Vodafone, he added.
