Registration on electoral roll opens today
Registration has opened today for a new electoral roll ahead of the 2025 general election.
Anyone who wants to vote in June can get their name on the roll using an online form which the States said would take less than five minutes to complete.
Paper forms will also be delivered to all households over the next few days. Anyone who prefers that method can use it to register all members of their household who are eligible to vote and return it in a freepost envelope included.
Anyone not on the roll by the time it closes on 30 April will be unable to vote in the general election on 18 June.
‘We will be trying to get as many islanders registered as possible in the coming months to ensure we get a good turnout for the election,’ said Colette Falla, registrar-general of electors.
‘Everyone in our island has a voice and voting is one of the most powerful ways to have your say about how the island is run. It is a pillar of any democracy so I would urge people to register.
‘The quickest way to register is online, with a simple form that will take only a few minutes to complete and submit electronically. You’ll then receive an email to confirm receipt. I would encourage people to use this method if possible.’
Next year will be the second full island-wide election at which every voter in Guernsey will be able to vote for up to 38 candidates. Turnout records were broken at the first island-wide election, in 2020, but some deputies have spoken about their fears that interest will wane this time around.
More information about the election is available at www.election2025.gg, including for potential candidates and about how to apply for postal voting, where to collect blank registration forms if needed, and much more.
