Bailiwick Scouts looking for a new chair
GUERNSEY’S Scouts are on the lookout for a new chair.

No scouting experience is necessary, but candidates should always ‘be prepared’.
Bailiwick Scouts commissioner Andy Snell, who is leading the search for the new head, said the role was needed to ensure good governance.
‘This is not a role to deliver scouting to young people but to make sure everything we deliver meets the requirements of scouting, legislation and in our role as a charity,’ he said.
‘No scouting experience is necessary, what’s more important is the candidate’s own skills and experience, as well as empathy with our mission and values.’
Current chairwoman Paula Williams is stepping down after several years in the role and Mr Snell paid tribute to her contribution.
‘She has done a wonderful job,’ said Mr Snell.
‘We are incredibly grateful for all she has done for scouting in the Bailiwick.’
There are currently more than 750 active Scouts across the Bailiwick, from beavers aged six, to members of the Scout ‘network’ up to age 25.
Mr Snell said the new chair would be required to lead four or five meetings of the board of trustees every year.
‘There would also be a little project work to ensure we comply with our scouting and charity requirements,’ he said.
‘I think there are lots of people in Guernsey with these skills, especially within the finance sector.’
Mr Snell said that Scouting relied on strong leadership.
‘We have some interest already but we would be willing to meet with anyone interested to give them a little extra detail.’ he said.
‘If you can motivate others, keep a cool head, and balance a variety of views, then you would be an ideal chairperson for the Bailiwick of Guernsey Scouts.’
