She will be proposed by P&R president Lindsay de Sausmarez when the States meets on Thursday to elect a replacement for Jonathan Le Tocq.
She was informed in a call from Deputy de Sausmarez just minutes before appearing as a guest on the latest episode of the Guernsey Press Politics Podcast, which is available from today.
‘I had put in my manifesto that I would be interested in a seat on P&R. In the event, I didn’t stand for it – perhaps that could be viewed as an early break of a manifesto promise. But that’s something I’m hoping to put right now,’ said Deputy Burford on the podcast.

‘I just felt there was a lot of experience going on the committee and there was limited experience elsewhere.’
Deputy Burford was elected as president of the Development & Planning Authority in July.
‘A couple of months on, a lot of the other committees have settled down, and I feel confident that there are ways that the DPA can be managed going forward if the Assembly agrees to support me.’
Interviews were held this week with several deputies who had expressed an interest in the seat. They included Deputies Marc Laine and Jayne Ozanne, both of whom were initially understood to have some support among existing P&R members.
All those interviewed were informed of P&R’s decision late yesterday.
A contested election is possible, but most of the other potential candidates previously indicated that they were unlikely to stand for the vacancy without P&R’s backing.
