The narrow walkway links Sark with Little Sark. Earlier this year it required emergency repairs after suffering damage during Storm Eowyn.
The latest closure, which will take place on Monday and Tuesday, is planned work.
Sark Douzaine chair Mike Locke said in December 2024 that a survey of the Coupee was being carried out to identify any areas of concern. But one of those areas collapsed in January before any work could be done.
Mr Locke said Geomarine had been quickly on site to fix it, but there were still a number of other areas needing attention.
‘This year we have had further surveys done to draw up a scheme of works to maintain the Coupee and prevent further damage,’ he said.
One of the big problems has been the water running off the Coupee and eroding the cliffs around it, which can lead to collapses.
Mr Locke said there were concerns about two drains in the middle of the walkway, at the lowest point. The plan was for engineers to use ropes to redo the drainage.
‘They will put in a pipe, which will go 30 metres down the cliff,’ he said.
For this work the Coupee will be closed to vehicular traffic except during set times to allow tractors to pass.
These will be first thing in the morning for school traffic, around noon for lunch and around 4pm for return school traffic.
Extra times could be added if requested.
It will not be possible to do the work in bad weather, so it may be postponed if the bad weather continues. Mr Locke said there was a lot of work ahead.
‘Next year we have a much bigger package of works, assuming the budget passes in mid-November,’ he said.
‘We have a hell of a lot to do, but we think it is better to do what we can rather than let it fall apart.’
