The season has now ended with the last town walk of the year taking place on Friday.

Gold-accredited tour guide Soo Wellfair said this season had been a successful one. She was confident that next year would prove to be too, in part due to the new location of the Visitor Information Centre in the Market Buildings.

‘The Market location has brought our starting point and base right into the heart of St Peter Port,’ said Mrs Wellfair.

‘There is lots of hustle and bustle in that area with a thriving hub with the various shops, restaurants, cafes, the library, the Town Church and the Arts Commission. It is also a fascinating area with historical significance and a great starting point for a guided walking tour of St Peter Port.

‘As a guide I found myself really enjoying being part of the Market community, right in the heart of things.’

The guides did have to re-route and write their walks, but Mrs Wellfair said that all of her colleagues saw the move as a positive change.

‘We all got used to our new home quickly and the general consensus regarding the relocation has been a very positive one,’ she said.

From the first walk on 1 April to the last on the 31 October, just fewer than 1,000 people joined the walks, with 123 people taking part in special Dutch-speaking tours, led by silver guide Ine Davies on Monday afternoons.

The walks take place every day except Liberation Day.

Daily town walks will resume on 1 April next year and will run every day apart from Liberation Day until the end of October.

All tours start outside the Visitor Information Centre at 10.30am and last approximately 90 minutes. They cost £10 for adults and £5 for under-12s.
