Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, will join islanders as they celebrate the return of the first evacuees to their home island on Monday 15 December.
‘I am delighted that Her Royal Highness will visit Alderney for what will be a significant anniversary for the Bailiwick,’ said Lt-Governor Sir Richard Cripwell.
‘Homecoming is always a very special occasion, marking a unique event, and I am sure The Duchess will enjoy meeting with homecomers, hearing their stories and sharing in Alderney’s special day.’
Further details of the visit will be published soon. The Duchess last visited the Bailiwick in August 2024 in her role as patron of the Association of Sail Training Organisations for the Guernsey to Poole Small Ships Race, and was in Guernsey for Liberation Day in 2022, when she danced with Rob ‘Judge’ Rinder at the Specsavers Liberation Tea Dance.
