The local industry’s trade body is helping the States develop a long- term retail strategy, set to benefit both islanders and visitors over the next decade.

In order to help, it has created a new role of retail liaison officer and administrator.

‘The retail industry employs around 3,500 people across more than 300 businesses and its value to the fabric of our society is widely recognised,’ said Retail Group chairman Jonathan Creasey.

‘Crucially, the direct and indirect contribution of the sector to the Guernsey economy should not be underestimated – and is particularly important given the objective of the States to grow the local economy.

‘This retail liaison officer will provide essential support as we navigate through an evolving retail landscape, maintaining regular engagement with retailers of all sizes throughout the island.’

The role involves building relationships with local retailers, event planning, general administration and conducting shop counts in Town and on the Bridge. It is intended as a part-time role of about 10 to 20 hours per week on a freelance basis.

Anyone keen to apply is invited to email hello@guernseyretailgroup.gg in the first instance for a job description. The closing date is 15 January.
