Seventy-nine-year-old motorcyclist Roger Brookfield, of Les Banques, St Sampson’s, was tracked riding at 51mph at Route des Paysans in St Pierre du Bois, while overtaking another vehicle.

The court was told that the incident had occurred near La Houguette School, but on a Sunday morning, when the primary school was closed.

Mr Brookfield told Judge Gary Perry that, up until now, he had been driving for 55 years ‘on a clean licence’.

A few days later, at L’Ancresse Road in Vale, Lynden Jones, of Grande Rue, St Martin's, was recorded driving his Fiat Panda at 47mph, towards Pembroke Bay in the middle of the afternoon.

‘I’m deeply ashamed of what I did,’ he told the court.

'It was a brief lapse of concentration. I’m 65 years old, I’m no boy racer.’

Taking everything into account, Judge Perry issued both men with a fine of £300 each, and did not suspend either of their licences.
