Set up in 1986 by Pat and Patrick Lynch, Situations has grown from a small founder-run operation into a trusted well-known name, helping thousands of professionals and businesses find the perfect job match. At the helm of this milestone is Melissa Campbell, MD and major shareholder, who has been with the business for 24 of those 40 years.

‘When I joined the business in 2002, I was managing the temp desk and quickly moved on to assist with permanent candidate placements too. I became a director later that year, a shareholder in 2011 and have been sole MD for the last five years.’

Since its establishment, the agency has seen significant changes. Melissa explained: ‘Back in the early 2000s, recruitment was a paper-driven process. CVs were typed, printed and posted out to clients, and most candidate contact was via landline phones, often out of hours.’

‘Fast forward to today, and technology has transformed the industry. Platforms like LinkedIn and social media have revolutionised how professionals connect. Advanced tools like AI can streamline a wide range of recruitment processes including candidate screening, video interviewing has become the norm, and digital systems ensure data security.’

Situations has consistently adapted to these innovations, investing in cutting-edge technology while maintaining its hallmark personal approach, including launching a new website with AI chatbot within the last year. Melissa added: ‘Staying ahead with technology is vital, but recruitment remains about people and quality service. Our success lies in blending tech efficiency with the genuine human connection and consultancy that our fantastic team provides.’

Their team has grown to nine staff now, with Melissa’s fellow director and shareholder, Kenieta Domaille, joining five years ago. The agency has stayed true to its core values and has maintained a strong reputation for professionalism, integrity and exceptional client and candidate service throughout. As Situations celebrates this landmark year and looks ahead to the future, it continues to embrace innovation while maintaining the strong personal touch that has defined its success for four decades.
