The man was 38 years old at the time and is on trial for touching the bottoms of two women who were then aged 21 and 26.

The incident took place in Hook restaurant last March.

The defendant and the two complainants were part of the same group, who were sat speaking for about an hour and a half. All three of them were in relationships with other people at the time.

CCTV was shown to the court multiple times, including in slow motion, picturing the defendant getting up from his seat and approaching the two women who were at the bar from behind, and touching each of them on the bottom.

The contact was described as being ‘brief’, but prosecuting advocate Liam Roffey said that no matter how brief, such contact was unacceptable.

The court heard that the man was paying compliments to both women about their looks and physiques.

One of them started to message her husband and then said that the defendant had gone too far and had touched her inappropriately.

Police were contacted and arrived at the venue and spoke to both women. The defendant was arrested the following morning.

During interview, the defendant said that he remembered sitting with the women.

He did not remember the specifics of the conversations but he had no reason to dispute what they were saying.

He had no recollection of the alleged touching and has denied the charges.

The man has no previous convictions. The court was told by Judge Catherine Fooks that the prosecution case would have to prove that the touching was done intentionally and was sexually motivated.

The trial continues.
