Wayne Diamond, 37, had admitted both assaults plus a public order offence.

These were dealt with by the court acting as a Magistrate’s Court but it was sitting as the Royal Court in order to deal with Diamond’s breach of a Royal Court probation order from 2023, plus a conditional discharge.

The first of the recent offences occurred at the Town bus terminus in August last year where Diamond met his former partner who was with her young son when there was to be a child contact handover.

Diamond had shouted abuse at the woman and as she tried to move past him he had pushed her with his shoulder, causing her to fall against the window of the bus information kiosk.

He went on to shout that he was ‘going to kill her’.

The second assault was against a man Diamond did not know and occurred in November last year just after 1am at the Weighbridge taxi rank.

Diamond had approached the victim and said something to him before he walked to the back of the queue where a verbal exchange took place. After that Diamond head-butted the victim, cutting his eyebrow.

Police officers nearby arrested Diamond but as they approached the police van he head-butted the side of the vehicle twice and he had to be taken to the ground, but he continued to swear and shout at the officers.

Advocate Paul Lockwood, defending, said the initial assault was more of a shoulder-to-shoulder push and the victim had stumbled into a shop window and had not fallen to the ground.

But he did not seek to shroud the obvious aggravating factor of a child being present at the time.

The words he had used to the woman were empty and impotent and it had ultimately been a petty bit of petulance, said the advocate.

However, there was no escaping the violent nature of the later assault, which had involved a head butt. It had occurred in the course of a confrontation when Diamond was face-to-face with the victim and happened when he leaned sharply forwards, hitting the victim’s eyebrow.

His letter to the court showed that he regretted his actions and an acceptance of his need to change and intention to do so.

At the time of the second assault and public order offence, Diamond had been on police bail for the first.

‘The court, together with right-thinking people in Guernsey, takes a dim view of people who assault women in public and in the vicinity of a small child,’ said Lt-Bailiff Russell Finch in passing sentence.

A head-butt was regarded as use of a weapon, he said.

Diamond was sentenced to 10 months in prison for the first assault and 16 months for the second, plus another two months for the public order offence, all to be served consecutively, and backdated to 17 November 2025, when he was taken into custody.

For breaching the conditional discharge the court handed down 10 days, to be served concurrently, and the probation order was ended.
