A large section of a property’s wall in King’s Mills forced the closure of a section of Les Grands Moulins late on New Year’s Day last year. There was a further collapse and landslip towards the end of that month too.

It is suspected that heavy rainfall caused the collapse of the five metre-high wall, which occurred at the site of the former Curle’s Garden Centre near the Fleur du Jardin hotel. It had previously collapsed in 2003, before it was acquired by Dudley Eddy.

In January 2025, Mr Eddy had been hopeful of completing repairs that summer, but insurance issues delayed him being able to proceed with rebuilding and stabilising the wall.

‘It’s now been 15 months,’ he said.

‘Traffic & Highways have been awesome, sending road sweepers when needed.’

Mr Eddy also praised NSP Foundations, which is carrying out the work on the wall.

The work is expected to take three months and has recently started.

‘They are doing really well. I have been told it will take three months, though it could be a bit longer.

‘Once it’s been cleaned out and everything is in place, the team will come in to reinforce the wall with concrete and steel and it will be skimmed with the original granite,’ said Mr Eddy.

As well as stabilising the wall, Mr Eddy has, as he has done in the past, added extra drainage to the wall to try to stop another collapse.
