Trey Spruce, of Les Effards Road, St Sampson’s, was also banned from driving for three months.

The court was told how he had driven his Mazda saloon on to Salerie Corner car park at about 8.50 one evening. While negotiating his way around his car collided with a BMW saloon which was parked on the end of a row.

When the owner of the BMW became aware of the damage they reviewed dashcam footage from their car which showed part of the incident. The defendant could be seen getting out of his car after the collision before getting back in again and driving off.

CCTV footage from the car park also showed him driving in and out of the car park.

When spoken to by police, Mr Spruce said he had not left a note on the other vehicle as he had been unable to find a pen and paper at the time.

In court, he admitted offences of driving without due care and attention, failing to stop after an accident, and failing to report it. He said it had been a moment of naivety and panic on his part and said he would not do it again.

Judge Gary Perry told the defendant he would not have been happy if he had had to pay for something because someone had done the same to him.

He fined him £300 for the due care and attention offence and £500 each for the other matters. A driving ban of three months concurrent was imposed for each offence.
