Gadoc secures rights to Frozen the Musical

GUERNSEY’S stage is set to come alive with two major fan-favourite theatre productions next year, marking 100 years of Gadoc.

Gadoc has secured the notoriously difficult rights to perform Disney’s Frozen next spring, followed by Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap in the autumn.

In a bid to honour its milestone anniversary appropriately, the local amateur dramatics club underwent significant negotiations to bring the two landmark productions to the island, for an epic 2027. Gadoc was founded by Lady Sackville-West in 1927.

‘I wonder if she ever dreamt the club would still be in existence 100 years on,’ said Lisa Johnston, Gadoc chair and Frozen director.

‘We have a diary packed full of centenary events and are planning to celebrate this special anniversary with blockbuster productions, a family party, gala dinner, workshops, and many more exciting activities.

‘It was so important that we found something “wow” for our centenary year, and suffice to say, Frozen definitely has the “wow” factor.’

The musical adaptation of the Disney favourite has enjoyed success on both Broadway and The West End, and the local production will coincide with the movie release of Frozen 3. With advanced visual effects and elaborate sets, the ambitious show is set to be one of the club’s most technically challenging.

Preparations are already under way and a dedicated ‘magic team’ has been brought in to ensure the club brings the true Disney magic to Beau Sejour next Easter.

Production and design teams are assembled, but open auditions for the cast will be held in September.

An equally well-known production will light up the local stage next October.

The murder mystery play The Mousetrap is one of the longest-running productions in theatre history – with the rights to perform it horribly difficult to secure.

Gadoc said it managed to do so through careful negotiations – outlining the significance of the club’s centenary year and its cultural impact on the island.

‘I can’t think of a more gripping or appropriate piece of theatre to honour Guernsey’s longest-standing theatre community than the longest-running play in the world,’ said Dani Robin, director of The Mousetrap.

‘I can’t wait to slide into the director’s seat and find a cast to bring Christie’s masterpiece to life.’

Auditions for The Mousetrap will take place next year.
