The fete is one of the church’s key fundraising events, with money raised from this year’s event going towards substantial repair works needed on the church, which, as it is not a parish church, is not supported by ratepayers.
‘The fete is to raise funds for repairs, but it’s also for people to have a nice time at the vicarage gardens with friends and family,’ said vicar the Rev. Solvieg Sonet.
‘They’re beautiful gardens, and it’s just a good chance to spend time relaxing. It’s a fairly traditional summer church fete.’
Though one of the island’s smaller churches by congregation numbers, St John’s maintains an active presence in the community with regular events on top of those larger annual institutions – its fete, quiz night, and Christmas fayre.
‘We’re a modest church, but we’re quite active throughout the week,’ said Ms Sonet.
‘We do lots of fun stuff, and people just come along, including people who don’t regularly go to church.’
The fete is set to take place on Saturday 18 July in the gardens of the St John’s vicarage.
