Prime Minister Andy Burnham has appointed Mr Norris as lord chancellor and secretary of state at the Ministry of Justice, which is responsible for the Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories.
As Mr Burnham continued forming his new government, the Policy & Resources Committee said it looked forward to working with Mr Norris and was pleased to see the appointment of various politicians with whom the island has links.
‘There has been the usual type of correspondence between the UK government and Guernsey on matters of mutual interest when Mr Norris was minister for border security and asylum, a role he was appointed to in September 2025, including on border issues relating to the Common Travel Area,’ said P&R’s external relations lead, Deputy Steve Falla.
‘As is usual, Guernsey will write to congratulate the new prime minister, the new lord chancellor and other relevant ministers as they take up their new appointments, and will seek meetings in due course.
‘There are a number of ministers already announced with whom we have established relationships and we will continue to monitor the ongoing reshuffle carefully.
‘It is also intended that Guernsey will send representatives to various UK party conferences in the autumn, but exact attendance has yet to be finalised.’
It was also announced that Jake Richards MP would continue as a parliamentary under-secretary of state in the Ministry of Justice. His day-to-day responsibilities have included the Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories since September 2025. He visited the island with Dame Margaret Hodge last month to continue to exert pressure for the island to adopt more transparency in relation to beneficial ownership.
