The plan contained few surprises, dedicating itself to eight priority areas including improving air and sea connectivity, growing visitor numbers, strengthening trade links with France and the Commonwealth, delivering the finance sector growth strategy, and accelerating the adoption of AI, digital services and innovation.
It will also look to complete a review of competition and regulation laws, maximising the value of the Guernsey Registry and Aircraft Registry, and developing a new economic development strategy.
‘Guernsey has strong economic foundations, but we are operating in an increasingly challenging demographic and global economic environment,’ said committee president Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller.
‘Years of underinvestment in productive infrastructure have also constrained our ability to grow, and we cannot assume that past success alone will secure future prosperity.
Our work plan is largely industry-agnostic, and sets out the committee’s priorities within its mandate, focusing on the areas where we believe we can make the greatest difference across the economy.’
She said that a joined-up approach across government and with industry would be critical to the success of the plan, and measurable outcomes would be a key theme for the workstreams.
All committees were supposed to have filed their priorities with the Policy & Resources Committee by the end of June. Economic Development is the first to have done so, with others expected to follow as soon as the end of this week.
