The eight-day long celebration, which included a street market, daft raft racing and a torchlight finale, went off without a hitch.
‘This year was really, really good,’ said Vicky Chandler, leader in the event’s organisational team alongside her husband, Wayne Chandler.
‘Everything ran smoothly, all our events were well attended and everyone looked like they were having so much fun.’
Mrs Chandler credited the ‘great atmosphere’ to the high number of visitors that came to Alderney for the event, a notable increase from previous years that she put down to the additional transport put in place to take travellers to and from the island.
‘We had extra boats from providers like Islands Unlimited, and I think that really helped. It made the atmosphere huge. The island was really buzzing.
‘But then again, [former England footballer] Peter Crouch was also here, and I think that helped to put smiles on a lot of people’s faces as well.’
While it is sure that catching a glimpse of the football star was a top moment for many, for Mrs Chandler, the highlight this year was taking part as a scarer in the ‘Abandoned Hotel’ haunted house attraction.
‘I’ve never had so much fun in my life,’ she said. ‘It was brilliant. We’d been working on putting it together for months.’
Despite only just having finished this year’s Alderney Week, Mrs Chandler and her team are already putting plans in motion for the 2027 event.
‘We have a few things booked and ready to go, but we’re going to take a month off now. We’ll meet again in October, and then hopefully we’ll be able announce a bit more about dates and themes later in December.’
