Jack Setters, of Le Bouet, St Peter Port, admitted the offence.
The court was told how the incident happened in Folies at about 1.15am one night in May. Door staff were restraining somebody on the second floor when the defendant, who was nearby, became aggressive. A doorman took hold of him to eject him, but as he was doing this the defendant broke free and threw three punches. Two connected with the doorman’s temple.
Setters ended up being restrained on the floor. Outside the club he admitted punching somebody but said he did not think his blows had connected.
The doorman suffered cuts and bruising to the side of his head.
In 2023 Setters had been jailed for 12 months for unlawful wounding. Defending, Advocate Samuel Steel said alcohol had played a part in this matter as it had done in the 2023 offence.
His client had got involved because he thought a friend was in danger. He realised now that he should have kept away.
The consequences of this incident to the victim were less serious than they had been in 2023.
Deputy Judge Graeme McKerrell said alcohol had clearly played a part in this matter but that was down to the defendant.
‘The bottom line is that if you drink like an idiot, you end up behaving like one,’ he told him.
Setters was also ordered to perform 140 hours’ community service as a direct alternative to six months in prison.
