89% of the school’s results were graded A* to C.
Seven Elizabeth College students came out of results day with three or more A*/A grades.
Jake Taylor, 18, who received an A* in biology, an A in chemistry, and an A in history, is now going to Southampton to study medicine.
‘The exams were very, very, very stressful, but the most stressful day was today,’ he said.
‘I wasn’t sure I’d get the grades, but I got the best possible results I thought I could get.’
Since he was only one mark away from the A* boundary in history, he plans to get it re-marked.
Matilda Cole and Sophia Newton, both 18, were celebrating their results with a party in the evening.
Both said that they were happy. Matilda received an A* in English, A* in psychology and a B in music and will be studying law at the University of Bristol in September.
‘I was really terrified in the car on the way here, but now I’ve opened them I don’t really know how to feel,’ she said.
Sophia got an A* in art, a B in geography and a B in psychology. ‘I’m doing midwifery at Surrey which is a bit different to everyone else,’ she said. ‘It was my first choice so I’m really excited about it.’
While many of Elizabeth College’s leavers have secured places at universities including Cambridge, Durham, Bath, and the London College of Fashion, others are seeking alternative routes to employment, including the armed forces, sports scholarships at universities in the USA, or entering the local workforce with companies including PwC, DLM Architects, and BDO.
Ben Davidson, 18, is hoping to become a helicopter pilot for the Royal Navy.
Now that he has his final results, he is waiting on confirmation from the final selection board as to whether he will be accepted. Ben earned an A in maths, a B in physics, and a B in music.
‘I was very nervous,' he said. ‘The eclipse was the only thing that I was looking forward to before results day.
'All of last night and all of this morning I’ve been in a slow state of more and more panic.
'But I’m very happy. Everything has worked out how I wanted it to.’
Year 12 student Herbie Stow, 17, picked up his maths A-level, which he sat a year early and walked away with an A*.
‘When you do further maths, you do the full A-level maths in year one and then in the second year you do further maths,’ he said. ‘It’s really good because it means you already have one A-level secured.’
Herbie is studying physics, further maths and chemistry, and hopes to go away to study spacecraft engineering this time next year.
‘We are immensely proud of everything our students have achieved,' said principal Jenny Palmer.
‘Their dedication, hard work and commitment have been rewarded with a great set of results and today we celebrate not only their academic achievements, but also the wider skills they have developed during their time at Elizabeth College.
‘It has been an absolute privilege to see our Year 13 leavers develop into confident, capable and well-rounded young adults who are ready to take on new challenges.’
