The film is of a talk in London, chaired by researcher and author Mike Berners-Lee, about the effects of climate change, and will be shown at Beau Sejour on Tuesday 29 September.
‘He’d just written a book and he gave a talk at the Guernsey Literary festival a couple of years ago, basically saying that climate change is bit of a taboo subject. It’s got very political and people really don’t want to discuss it because we’ve all got this impending sense that it is coming along,’ said event organiser Ben Lakeland.
‘He said that the big thing we need to do is we need to have a tipping point, we need to change people talking about things and we need to change people’s behaviours – and the only way to change behaviours is to actually start really talking about these sort of things.
‘After that he then had a conference in London where he got eight experts in their various fields and they gave this talk which they filmed.
'Our event is going to be showing that film and then giving the audience a chance to talk among themselves. We’ll also get some radio mics and they’ll be able to say what they feel about things and what they feel Guernsey should be doing to mitigate the effects of climate change. Because it is coming and we’re just seeing the start of it now.’
On the panel after the film will be Alex Herschel from Sea Green Solutions, Ben Le Huray from Little Green Energy, Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, and Jock Pettitt from the Soil Farm.
Earlier in the day there will be a showing for sixth formers at 2pm before the public screening at 7.30pm.
