A problem with the Brittany Ferries fast ferry Voyager emerged on Sunday and caused the cancellation of all sailings yesterday.
As of the afternoon, the vessel was scheduled to return to service today, but frantic rebooking has seen many trips only rescheduled for Wednesday.
Islanders and visitors on Facebook group complained about an inability to get through to rebook and those who waited for promised further information were informed that they had been rebooked for Wednesday or Thursday.
Technical problems with Islands Unlimited’s San Pawl ferry will continue beyond this week, it announced yesterday.
The company said that all passenger services scheduled up to and including Thursday 10 September had been cancelled. Every affected booking would be refunded automatically.
News on sailings from Friday 11 September would be updated before the end of the week, it added.
‘At that point, we will confirm whether those future sailings can operate or whether additional cancellations will be required. We sincerely apologise for the disruption and uncertainty this situation is causing.
‘Our team is working continuously to resolve the issue and restore services safely and reliably.’
Various charter operators are attempting to help out with travel options.
Jersey-based Water Taxi CI said it was aiming to support Islands Unlimited and its customers affected by its disruption, alongside other local charter partners.
‘We are working hard to put additional inter-island shuttle charters in place between Jersey and Guernsey,’ it said.
It is planning additional scheduled shuttle services today and tomorrow once strong winds have subsided as forecast, and if sea conditions allow.
‘We hope these additional services will help ease the disruption and provide an alternative travel option between the islands,’ it said.
Sailings are priced at £70 per person one way. There are Guernsey services between Alderney and Jersey available today, and between Guernsey and Jersey tomorrow.
Guernsey-based Bailiwick Boat Charters said it was willing to help with people making private bookings and said it would help to connect people for charters with various operators.
‘We will do our best to assist where we can,’ it said.
