The circus, which was started by Gill Valler in 1989 is back at the L’Eree showgrounds for another year.
Each day until Tuesday there will be an early traditional circus in the tent – at 5pm on weekdays and 2.30pm on weekends – and a fire show at 8.15pm.
‘With the fire show there is a really spectacular element and some very unexpected moments,’ said circus performer Kydd.
‘I’ve been working on this show for 15 years, and we have a cast of seven delivering this show.’
The fire show is more contemporary than the earlier traditional circus.
‘There are 11 or 12 different artists performing a variety of acts, from acrobatics to hula hoops, illusion, lights and laser, and interactive family fun,’ said performer Katy Kartwheel.
‘It’s an eclectic mix. It’s very relaxed and silly, but with high-quality acts.’
Both Katy and Kydd are experienced circus performers, with Kydd travelling to the island from Jersey and Katy from the UK.
‘I have been involved in many big circuses and have my own circus company – Circus Passion,’ she said.
They have been performing at Circus Starlight for the last three years.
As well as Katy and Kydd, there is a group of high-energy African acrobats among this year’s performers.
Circus Starlight started last week, but was hit by the bad weather over the weekend, so had to cancel some of its shows.
