Brothers Nathan and Daniel De Mouilpied, along with their cousin, are lining up in one of the 240 cars taking part in the Rat Run challenge, which started yesterday.
They are raising money for the charitable pre-school Little Buttons, based at the Castel Church Hall, which is owned by Nathan’s wife, Heidi.
‘It’s Monday to Friday, and we will be scrapping the car in Benidorm once we are there,’ said Nathan.
One of the added challenges is that the car cannot be more expensive than £600 to purchase.
‘Probably 40 or 50 cars will get scrapped when we all get to Benidorm,’ said Nathan.
‘For us and for many others, it’s a 50/50 chance we will get there.’
It was a last-minute decision from the brothers to take part.
‘There were a few spaces so we booked on,' said Nathan.
'We were still adding some last details to the car, like the stickers, yesterday.'
‘And the spoiler was added yesterday, so it’s just about ready,’ added Daniel.
Money raised from the challenge will be spent on air conditioning for Little Buttons.
‘For the aircon we are looking at around £7,000,’ said Mrs De Mouilpied.
‘It’s been unbearable in the summer, and we want to make it more comfortable for the children.’
The drive starts in Dover and after a ferry crossing, takes in night-time stops in Rouen, Bordeaux and Zaragoza before ending up in Benidorm.
‘Every breakdown, wrong turn, and unexpected challenge becomes part of the story,’ said the organisers.
