They had been due to open the display, appearing just after 6.30pm, but were withdrawn at late notice with ‘great regret’.

‘The team are facing issues with aircraft and engineering resource, which has meant they cannot produce the jets for Wednesday or deploy overnight away from Waddington anymore,’ said the RAF Events Team.

‘I know this will be a great disappointment to you and the people of Guernsey, especially at late notice and following the cancellation of BBMF Dakota due to serviceability.’

It is understood that the team has also cancelled their appearance at Sanicole, a large display in Belgium this weekend.

Local organisers said they had been in discussions with aircraft displaying in Jersey and had secured the Navy Wings Seafire to fill the slot.

Final running order for tonight’s display:

6.30pm - Team Raven

6.50pm - Navy Wings Swordfish

7.05pm - Hurricane

7.15pm - Navy Wings Seafire

7.30pm - Jet Provost

7.45pm - Airborne Pyrotechnics
