The new route to Olbia, the main gateway to Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda, will operate between August and September, offering islanders the chance to explore the Mediterranean destination without travelling through a UK airport.
It marks the first time C. I. Travel Group has offered holidays to Italy and forms part of an expanded summer programme, which went on sale this week, with five direct routes operating from Guernsey.
Alongside Sardinia, holidaymakers will be able to fly to Majorca, Ibiza, Malaga and Faro, with additional departures to Ibiza extending its season from the end of May to mid-August.
‘Sardinia is the first time we have offered holidays to Italy, and we’re extremely excited about this stunning new destination in the Mediterranean,’ said C. I. Travel Group director Alexander Devlin.
He said customers continued to appreciate the convenience of direct flights, avoiding the need for connecting flights or overnight stays in the UK.
Guernsey Ports airport director Richard Thomasson welcomed the expanded programme.
‘The addition of Olbia, Sardinia is a fantastic enhancement to the network and further strengthens the choice available from Guernsey Airport,’ he said.
‘It’s particularly pleasing to see continued growth in a programme that has been so well supported by local travellers, demonstrating the strong demand for convenient direct air services from the island.’
All Guernsey flights will be operated by BA CityFlyer using Embraer 190 aircraft, with 20kg of hold baggage and 10kg of cabin baggage included.
Child discounts of between £50 and £200 will again be available on all flights, alongside group discounts during the school summer holidays.
