The replacement was made to the exact dimensions of the old pipe and will be installed by Guernsey Ports’ dive team.
The challenging location and tidal conditions mean the work can only be done during a narrow window. No date has been set, but Guernsey Water hopes it will be within the next few weeks.
The company has been working with the Office of Environmental Health and Pollution Regulation to secure the approvals needed for the installation.
Earlier this year, it came to light that a damaged chamber was preventing the outfall from discharging as far out to sea as it should.
Since then, Guernsey Water and the ports’ divers have inspected the damaged pipe and removed it.
‘Moving the replacement pipe into position at the harbour is a significant step forward and means everything is now in place for installation when the right tide and weather window becomes available,’ said Guernsey Water capital delivery manager Carl Falla.
He said the repair had been complex and in a challenging environment. Without the dive team, ‘this work could not have been completed this year’.
‘Once the replacement section has been installed, we will increase the frequency of inspections on this outfall so that any future issues can be identified and addressed much sooner,’ said Mr Falla.
Guernsey Water said it would give an update once the work was complete.
