The Cox family, who run the Alderney Farm Shop and Jean’s Stores in Victoria Street, posted a statement on social media yesterday.
‘We just want to say the biggest thank you to everyone who has supported us over these last few days,’ they said.
‘It’s been an unimaginably painful week and the kindness, messages, hugs, offers of help and simple acts of support from people across the island have meant more than we can say.
‘Our incredible staff are much more than staff, they’re our extended family. We’re looking after each other, getting through this together and doing what we know Hannah would want us to do. Keep going. Keep the doors open. Keep serving our community. Keep trucking on. No fuss. No nonsense. So that’s what we’re doing. For her. Always.’
Guernsey Police have also offered an update about their ongoing murder investigation from chief officer Damian Kitchen.
‘A number of lines of enquiry are being followed in relation to the tragic incident in Alderney this week, and officers would continue to encourage the public to contact them with any relevant information,’ he said.
‘The process of identifying what happened is complex and requires meticulous work from our teams, the support of the community, other agencies, and colleagues from external forces.
‘This investigation, alongside other serious ongoing investigations and demands, would present challenges to much larger forces, which is amplified given the capacity of Guernsey Police. Our officers and staff are committed to being there when needed and will always respond immediately where there is a threat to life, a risk of harm, or a crime in progress, and I wish to reassure all our communities that we have highly committed officers and staff who are determined to maintain services as close to normal as possible; however, I would ask members of the public and partners to be patient as we manage the competing demands and operational requirements. ‘
Mr Kitchen also thanked officers from the UK south-west and Jersey and colleagues from Guernsey Customs and Immigration for their assistance in the investigation which will continue past the weekend.
‘I also want to thank the Alderney community for their help, welcome and support to our teams deployed across the island, during what I am sure is an incredibly unsettling time for them.
‘We are grateful for the public’s continued support, patience and understanding while our officers work to support both communities at this time.’
