Doug and Dame Mary Perkins received the Lifetime Contribution Award at this year’s Retail Gazette Awards in London.
The award recognises their role in building one of the UK’s best-known retail businesses and helping to transform access to optical and audiology care.
‘I was genuinely surprised to receive this award. It’s a real honour to be recognised by the industry, especially as Doug and I approach 60 years in optics,’ said Dame Mary.
‘What makes it even more special is knowing that Specsavers has only ever been possible because of the passion and commitment of our partners and colleagues.
‘They’ve helped shape the business from day one and continue to make a difference for our customers every day.’
The Retail Gazette Awards recognise people and businesses across the retail sector.
Founded in Guernsey in 1984, Specsavers operates a joint venture partnership model, under which optometrists, audiologists and retailers own shares in their own practices, with support from the Specsavers group to run them.
It now has almost 5,000 partners owning shares in more than 2,600 stores across 11 countries.
