Five hundred have already booked a special Brittany Ferries day trip to St Malo for the start of the Route du Rhum, and last-minute tickets are still available.
Fast ferry Voyager leaves St Peter Port at 7am and arrives in St Malo at 10.30am French time. The return sailing leaves at 4pm French time and is due back in Guernsey at 5pm.
The fleet sets off at 1.02pm on its 3,500-nautical-mile race to Guadeloupe. Vantage points include the ramparts of the walled city.
Passengers will also have time to explore the race village, which covers an area the size of almost 10 football pitches.
The company adapted its schedules to run the sailing through its partnership with the States, and the trip falls on the last day of the half-term holiday.
‘Through our partnership with the States of Guernsey, we’ve adapted our schedules so that islanders can spend the day at one of the world’s great sailing events and be home again the same day,’ said Brittany Ferries group director of sales and marketing Paul Acheson.
‘Brittany Ferries has been an official partner of the Route du Rhum since 1978, and we’re delighted to be sharing it with Guernsey.’
Economic Development president Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller said the trip demonstrated ‘the value of our partnership and stronger links with France’.
‘It’s fantastic to see 500 islanders already booked for the trip. What a perfect way to round off the half-term holiday weekend!’
Brittany Ferries also has a presence in the race village and is working with Visit Guernsey to showcase the island to the many visitors expected.
