The real Guernsey injustice in fuel duty is between the circa 13p per mile tax paid by users of petrol and diesel vehicles and the zero tax per mile on electric vehicles. Some might claim this is justified by a saving in CO2 output but even if this concerns you it is an entirely misguided argument.
On typical Guernsey mileages they will almost never save more CO2 than they cause when the EV car and fairly short-lived battery are manufactured.
So before increasing this duty can we have a 13p a mile tax on EV cars so as to have a fair, level and unrigged market? If you really want to save CO2 keeping your old car for longer is almost always the best way to do so and far cheaper too despite paying the extra tax.
Also EV buyers are usually wealthier than the average – so why do they get the tax break?
