Huge weekend for Guernsey in EH Trophy semi-finals

GUERNSEY player-coach Andy Whalley admits there is 'a real buzz' in his squad as they prepare to host Formby in the EH Men's Trophy semi-final tomorrow.

'I have 19 players desperate to get into the squad for this game. People are just itching to play,' Whalley said.

'It is not often you get a national semi-final here on a Saturday afternoon, so we are hoping for a big crowd, perhaps the largest we have ever had, and that the atmosphere will be brilliant.

'Hopefully that will play to our advantage in what will be a very tight game, so the more support we have the better.'

Tomorrow's game at Footes Lane starts at 12.30pm.

Among the crowd will be the Guernsey women's squad, who will travel for their own EH Trophy semi-final on Sunday when they face holders Henley.

'It's a massive game and we are not sure if it has ever happened before that the Trophy holders have faced the Vase holders like this for a place in the final, because normally if the Vase winners make the step up, they have not made it past the first or second round,' said Guernsey captain Emma Atkinson.

'Certainly this is the biggest game we have been involved in and is far beyond our wildest dreams for our first season in the competition.'
