Guernsey duo handed FIA wildcard invites to race
DARREN WARWICK and Paul Buckingham will test themselves against the best hill climbers on the continent later this month at the inaugural European Hill Climb Masters.
It is a notable achievement for both Guernsey drivers, who received wild card invitations from motorsport's governing body, the FIA, for the prestigious meet.
The event is at Eschdoorf in Luxembourg the weekend after next, and the Sarnian duo will be among a handful of UK drivers making the trip.
Designed to bring the very best hill climbers from every motorsport association in Europe, as well as international champions, together for the first time, up to 180 drivers will be competing.
It will be held on 11 and 12 October, with Warwick's invitation coming after he impressed in both the Guernsey and Jersey rounds of the British championships in recent years.
Buckingham doesn't race locally these days, but is a regular feature in the higher echelons of the French hill climb scene, although his invitation still came through the British.
