Gatland gives Guernsey youngsters his words of wisdom
ONE of the best coaches in the business was on hand to give the Guernsey Under-15 Schools team a pep talk yesterday ahead of their upcoming inter-island clash.
Successful 2013 British & Irish Lions coach Warren Gatland came to the island along with former Ireland and Lions centre Rob Henderson for a Wooden Spoon charity dinner, but before addressing the throng at the Duke of Richmond in the evening, both took to a windswept Les Ozouets field to give the youngsters a motivational talk that will live long in their memory.
'I'm an ex-school teacher, so I know what it's like at this level,' said Wales coach Gatland, who is a three-time Six Nations Championship winner, including two Grand Slams.
'Young people have so many things available to them nowadays, I think to keep them involved and encouraged in sport is really important.'
