Guernsey RFC 33, Westcliff 22

A BONUS-POINT victory was just what the doctor ordered as Guernsey hauled themselves off the bottom of National Three London & South-East on Saturday.

It will grate with Jordan Reynolds and his men that they allowed fellow strugglers Westcliff a bonus point at Footes Lane as they scored their fourth try with the last play of the game because it keeps the visitors one point ahead of their hosts in the table, but the home side can take plenty of positives from some of the excellent rugby they played at times.

For a quarter-of-an-hour at the start of either half, Guernsey would have been more than a match for any side in the division as they played with an intensity and accuracy that Westcliff could not live with.

The result was five quality tries - two for Matt Hema and one each for Glen Walters, Dave Davison and Maloclm Barnes - and a game that had been killed off long before the Guernsey line came under that later pressure which yielded two tries in the final 12 minutes to give the scoreline more respectability for the visitors.
