George aims to put injury nightmares behind him
AFTER two injury-wrecked seasons George Collenette is keeping everything crossed that his return to Guernsey will correspond with an upturn of fortunes and a clean bill of health.
It was four years ago when the former La Mare High head boy headed to a rugby college in Wales where his game progressed sufficiently to be signed up for Championship club Cornish Pirates.
But his time there was spoiled by two very significant setbacks, as he explained.
'I've had a couple of serious injuries. I tore a groin and had a season out. Then I tore the PCL in the back of my knee just before last Christmas.
'I managed, though, to get a few games in at the end of the season.'
Those games were in the colours of the Cornish All Blacks at Launceston, who play at National Two level, one league above the Raiders, who he can't wait to get playing for.
'I'm pretty excited to be getting on with it.'
He says he has been transformed as a player since leaving.
'I think I'm a completely different player than when I left. In that environment you learn quickly.'
