Students taught a lesson as Indies enjoy coronation
IT WAS a harsh lesson for Victoria College to learn on Saturday as Guernsey's top club side of recent times were crowned Channel Islands champions at Footes Lane.
It was a good way for ABN Amro Indies to start their season – or officially finish their last – in a game that was literally men against boys, even though the team in orange fielded a few of their own teenagers, who each contributed to their convincing 11-1 win.
But it was established Guernsey stars who did the damage for the home side with Steve Waldrom scoring six of their goals while Josh Kendal hit a hat-trick and Andy Alford and Andy Le Page chipped in with a goal apiece while Mark Boarer deservedly scored the consolation goal that came Victoria College's way early in the second half.
'It was our first competitive game of the season so it was nice to get a convincing win and get a few goals under our belt,' said Indies captain Ben Cormack.
