Merrien digs deep to make another Potters showdown

A WORLD Bowls Tour Women’s Matchplay event at Potters Resort would be almost unthinkable without the presence of Guernsey’s Alison Merrien.

But the Sarnian bowls legend, who has played in three WBT world finals and won the title in 2011, was required to turn up at the PBA play-offs in Bromley to bid for her place in the field at the early 2018 event.

She rose to the occasion, though, producing a typically gutsy performance, winning five games on a knockout basis and will be competing in both the Women’s Matchplay singles and the World Mixed Pairs championships in January.

‘I’m really pleased to get through such a class field, and it’s great to have another crack at the Women’s Matchplay and Mixed Pairs at Potters again,’ said the Guernsey woman.
