As with the first time, Guernsey clinched a nail-biting win on Jersey soil, but rather than Adam Shorto or Martyn Desperques delivering the usual final blow, this time it was Glenn Le Prevost who was the toast of the team.
After a match that swung to and fro, Guernsey’s hopes rested on Le Prevost beating CI champion Gary Britton in the 25th and final match.
Britton had sparkled with breaks of 83 and 70 in his earlier games, suffering just one defeat against Shorto.
Le Prevost had also lost the once – surprisingly against Ross Symes to end the afternoon session at 7-7 – and he was up against it early on in a tense decider.
Britton led from the start and was 40-34 up heading into the colours, but he handed an unexpected lifeline by going in off the yellow.
A brilliant, trademark long pot on the yellow with perfect screwback for position served up the chance Le Prevost was looking for and he duly clinched the match on a difficult pink of a fine clearance under enormous pressure.
