We can bank on Josh
GUERNSEY have secured the commitment of Alderney’s finest player to help them in their FA Inter-League Cup campaign next season.
Josh Concanen has indicated he will play for the FNB Priaulx League representative squad which will be coached by Charlie Pinsard when they travel to the UK and play the Hampshire League at the end of September.
Pinsard said he ‘had snapped the arm off of’ Phil Corbet’s invite to take over the side.
‘He offered me the position and I wasn’t going to turn it down,’ said the 32-year-old who led North to an end-of-season Guernsey FA Cup triumph.
Pinsard hopes that his new role will stretch beyond the Inter-League campaign and he is keen that the representative side play several more games before and after the tie on 28 September.
‘I’ve spoken to all the club coaches already, because previously the communication had been really bad with the way the team has been set-up, and I’ve spoken to Josh [Concanen] who is going to get involved.
‘He and [brother] Steve are quite keen to get involved and it’s fantastic to have them on board.’
Concanen, who won the player of the tournament award in Ynys Mon recently, has been honoured again, receiving the grassroots coach of the year award at the GFA’s 125th anniversary presentation dinner on Saturday night.
At the same event Martin Le Cras won the volunteer of the year award and after 50 years as a referee Geoff Ogier won the Mike Thomas award for services to the game.
