LISTEN: Pete Beausire talks all things Guernsey Basketball on the GP Sport Podcast
THE potential for a three-way Men's Division One title play-off in the short-term and the hopes of Guernsey success at a home Island Games in 2023 were just two of the topics covered by Guernsey Basketball Association's Pete Beausire on this week's Guernsey Press Sport Podcast.
He talks about the state of play across the domestic leagues and the disruption caused by the pandemic and the change of venues before turning to the prospect of representative matches resuming, hopefully sooner rather than later.
'We'd love to have an Inter-Insular this year. If we can have an Inter-Insular in 2021 we'd be over the moon,' Beausire said on the short-term goals for the Island sides.
He added, though, that the major focus is the Guernsey 2023 Island Games.
'We know we've got the potential, we know we've got the drive, we know we've got the passion. The Island Games is a goal.
'The women have been very successful over the years getting medals, with the men's team we've had two fourth places back-to-back, which is gut-wrenching.
'But we love it .. we embrace that week as much, if not more, than any other sport and we want people to support us. We've always drummed into our teams in our association, support everyone else and they will come and support you.
'To have that in Guernsey is the dream and a few of our team started their Island Games career in 2003 and they want to finish their Island career in Guernsey ... imagine finishing your Island Games [career] 20 years later here.'
