Tarpey nets hat-trick to down Green Lions

BRACKNELL TOWN showed why they are top of Isthmian South Central last night as they proved too strong for Guernsey FC at Footes Lane.

Prolific striker Dave Tarpey netted a hat-trick for the visitors in a 3-0 victory that was, in the end, as comfortable as the scoreline suggests.

Although the Green Lions enjoyed a decent spell in the second quarter of the game having fallen behind after seven minutes, the closest they came to scoring was captain Ross Allen’s 25-yard curling free-kick that was tipped away by goalkeeper Michael Eacott.

The home side’s cause was not helped by losing Louis Graham to injury after quarter-of-an-hour and neither Keanu Marsh nor Charlton Gauvain managed to get through the 90 minutes on a night when little went Tony Vance’s way.

‘Obviously they were a very good team, we knew that and expected it,’ said the GFC manager.

‘Probably one of the best teams to come here and unfortunately we are not ready to play them.

‘What makes it worse is we lose Louis then we lose Keanu and Charlton, so we lose three players against a quality team and you are already shy of our standard defenders that we would normally have.’

Things do not get any easier for GFC either, as they now travel to second-placed Uxbridge on Saturday and Vance will be struggling to find any fit and available defenders for that one.

‘When you lose your resources at such an early stage of the season, you’ve got to dig in. We’ll find a way,’ he said.
