Muratti coach Tardif resigns
CHRIS TARDIF has quit his post as Muratti manager citing a lack of trust and support of the full GFA board.
The 42-year-old former professional said he will now concentrate on coaching his son’s team at St Martin’s ‘which is much more rewarding at this time’.
Cleared by the GFA in September of all charges brought about over an alleged tapping up which initially saw him hit with a two-year ban from working in open-age football, he initially said he was resetting his sights on regaining the Muratti Vase after having his appeal against an alleged breach of FA Standard Code of Rules upheld.
But now a change of heart.
‘It is with great regret and sadness that I have decided to step down as the GFA senior men’s representative manager.
‘Following the additional time to review my priorities due to the enforced Covid break and the recent charges brought against me from the GFLM, it has felt like a thankless task has become even harder.
‘Despite being cleared of all charges, it has become very apparent that I don’t have the trust and support of the full GFA board.’
Reflecting on what brought about the summer ban, he said: ‘Any actions I took were solely to try and benefit Guernsey football as a whole and for no personal gain, with the subsequent process causing great distress.’
He added: ‘My actions were naive in some respects but interpreted in such a way without knowing the full details by most.
‘I believe I have so much left to give but unfortunately circumstances have made this opportunity untenable at the present time.’
Tardif had hoped to lead the Guernsey side at the 2021` Island Games, only to see that postponed.
