The Guernsey star moved from fellow Women’s Super League side Brighton & Hove Albion in July and is fully aware of the elevated expectations around her as they begin their campaign at home to Reading, a week later than scheduled following the death of the Queen.

‘It’s big, there’s a jump up with the standard and the quality. It’s a different challenge now, we’re expected to win every game,’ she said.

‘I’ve settled in well and I think I’ve been doing well in training, just getting used to the style of play that we want to play at United’.

Le Tissier has been getting up to speed quickly since joining in July. She started all three of their matches in pre-season and is determined to play her part at a club with ambitions to break the top-three stranglehold of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City sooner rather than later.

‘For me, I’d back myself all the way – I just need to put everything I’ve got into trying to get myself in the team.

‘Of course we’ve got senior internationals who have won Euros and Olympics and things like that, so it’s going to be difficult. But I love the challenge, so bring it on.’

The 20-year-old can now count four of England’s Euro winners as teammates, including Ella Toone and Alessia Russo, whose goals lit up the home tournament.

Maya, who captained England U23s in their last outing, was there at Wembley to see that history made and is now relishing the chance to be around some of the players who made it week-in, week-out.

‘It’s just so cool to be teammates alongside all of the England girls because that’s what I dream of, to be in a team with them,’ she said.

‘It’s special to be able to play with them and to see what they’ve achieved over the summer is really inspiring.'

‘I think for those girls to have those experiences, I think they deserve it, and it’s something the younger generation – people like me, and younger – they want to be a part of one day.'

‘We just keep pushing.’
