Mahon back for GFC but Dodds ruled out
THE Green Lions welcome back Kieran Mahon as they look to return to winning ways at a happy hunting ground this afternoon.
Guernsey FC have beaten today’s hosts Sutton Common Rovers in all four of their previous meetings, including a remarkable 1-0 victory a year ago when Ross Allen bagged the three points with the last kick of the game, by which time his team were down to 10 following a red card for Keene Domaille.
Allen is currently away, so unavailable for today’s game, as is another of last year’s heroes Tom Dodds, who is ill.
However, the return of Mahon strengthens the midfield while Charlton Gauvain’s suspension for Monday’s controversial sending off does not start until 16 September.
Youngsters Seb Vance and Jack Griffins are not travelling.
‘Seb has done well in his absence, but ultimately Kez is a massive cog in our wheel. He sets the tempo, so it’s really important to have him back,’ said Tony Vance.
Rovers sit directly above 15th-placed GFC in the Isthmian South Central table on goal difference, having also won once and lost twice so far this campaign.
Their danger man is Aaron Jenkins who has netted four goals in five games to start the season.
‘Sutton Common Rovers, like us, are already fighting for points and I think it’s going to be a very competitive game,’ said Vance.
‘You can’t take anything for granted in this league.’
