GFC's first point at home feels like two dropped

GUERNSEY FC broke their home duck in nice weather for ducks last night at Footes Lane – but one point really should have been three.

After a delayed start due to the late arrival of the visitors’ aircraft, the Green Lions were the better side for the first hour of the game and deservedly opened up a two-goal lead with Fin Du Port credited with the opener as his cross-cum-shot flicked an Uxbridge head on the way in and then Ross Allen doubled the advantage before the break.

GFC, who had lost all four of their previous home games this season, could have had more goals, too, but on 61min. they gifted Uxbridge a way back into the match which Ada Okorogheye gratefully accepted and went on to concede a soft equaliser to James Taylor from a corner before surviving a couple of hairy moments late on as it ended 2-2 in the rain.

‘I just said to the players, the first half and glimpses of the second half is exactly why I love coaching them and watching them play, because I thought they were they were fantastic in the first half, really deserved to be two up, should have been more, we really had them controlled with great aggressive football,’ said GFC manager Tony Vance.

‘Then, second half, the two stupid goals, poor goals, are exactly why I hate coaching them, to be honest, because we just kick ourselves in the behinds so often. It’s our Achilles heel. It’s where we wobble.

‘Credit to the players, they dug in, because there were a few scary moments, but even then I think we had probably more chances, flashes across the goal and stuff.

‘So we’re getting there, but I’m pleased it wasn’t a last-minute winner from them.’
