Rec aiming to do double over Saints in a week

Vale Rec are looking to build on last weekend’s positive performance against FNB Priaulx League champions St Martin’s when they face them again for the second time in a week tonight.

Seven days ago Rec came out with a 2-1 win over Saints and coach Mark Romeril said he was really pleased with a ‘good fighting performance’ from his side.

‘I was really pleased, they showed that we haven’t lost our fight and they showed that in abundance on Saturday,’ he said.

‘It’s just a shame we didn’t play them when it mattered.’

Up until Saturday Rec had suffered two defeats at the hands of North and Sylvans after having not played in the league for more than 100 days, and had a fair few of their first-team regulars missing, but Romeril reported that some players have returned.

‘The good news is we have Ed Mason back from travelling and he scored the winning goal on Saturday, and some of the players missing, the ones from last season, the tried and tested players, are starting to come back,’ he said.

‘We didn’t want to take any chances with Seb Skillen and Will Fazakerley on Saturday, but they should be ready for tonight now, but still without five or six key players I think we did really well.

‘We just really have our two long-term ones now – Luke Gaudion had an operation for a hernia and he is back on grass now, but had a few problems coming back and Jacob Masterton-Pipet is also out long term.’

Vale Rec now have their sights set on second and retaining the Stranger and FA Cups.

Romeril said his side remained focused on building momentum now to finish as high as possible in the league and secure a Wheway Cup spot.

‘We want to be second and want to retain the two cups, and building momentum now will help with that,’ he said.

‘We need to be on it for games now.’

St Martin’s against Vale Rec kicks off at 7.30pm today at Blanche Pierre Lane.

Elsewhere in the Priaulx League tonight, Belgrave Wanders host Rovers at the Track at 7.30pm and Rangers take North to the KGV 3G, kicking off at 7.45pm.
